1. Purpose and Scope

ARISTHA: Ar-Risalah Journal of Islamic Tourism and Hospitality is committed to transparent, accountable, and ethically responsible financial management in support of independent scholarly publishing.

This Revenue Source Policy establishes the principles governing the journal's financial support, potential revenue sources, disclosure practices, and safeguards against inappropriate financial influence on editorial decisions.

The policy applies to the financial and operational arrangements associated with the journal's publication activities, including manuscript management, editorial administration, peer review, online publishing, technical maintenance, and scholarly dissemination.

2. Principles of Financial Transparency

ARISTHA applies the following principles to its financial and operational arrangements:

  1. Transparency: Applicable publication charges and relevant financial arrangements should be disclosed clearly.

  2. Editorial independence: Financial support must not determine manuscript acceptance or rejection.

  3. Accountability: Financial resources should be managed in accordance with applicable institutional procedures.

  4. Fairness: Authors should not be subjected to undisclosed or misleading charges.

  5. Research integrity: Revenue generation must not compromise peer review or publication ethics.

  6. Separation of responsibilities: Financial administration and editorial evaluation should remain appropriately distinct.

  7. Sustainability: Financial support should contribute to the continuity and quality of scholarly publishing.

The journal recognizes that responsible financial governance is essential to maintaining trust among authors, reviewers, readers, and academic institutions.

3. Institutional Support

ARISTHA is published by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Ar-Risalah Sumatera Barat, Indonesia.

The journal may receive institutional support for its academic publishing activities, subject to applicable institutional arrangements and resource availability.

Such support may include:

  • Journal website hosting and technical infrastructure.

  • Online Journal Systems (OJS) administration.

  • Editorial and administrative coordination.

  • Website maintenance and digital publishing services.

  • Academic capacity development and editorial training.

  • Publication-related operational resources.

Institutional support does not confer authority to override independent editorial assessments or require the acceptance of particular manuscripts.

4. Potential Sources of Financial Support

Depending on the journal's approved operational arrangements, financial support may originate from:

  • Institutional budget allocations.

  • Research or academic publishing grants.

  • Voluntary sponsorships or donations that comply with ethical requirements.

  • Approved collaborative publishing arrangements.

  • Article processing charges, if formally adopted and publicly disclosed.

  • Other lawful and appropriately authorized sources consistent with the journal's academic mission.

The inclusion of a potential funding category in this policy does not imply that ARISTHA currently receives revenue from that source.

Actual financial arrangements should be documented and administered according to applicable institutional requirements.

5. Article Processing Charges

Any article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, publication fees, or related author payments must be governed by the journal's publicly available Article Processing Charges Policy.

Where fees apply, the journal should disclose:

  1. The amount and currency.

  2. The purpose of the charge.

  3. The stage at which payment becomes applicable.

  4. Applicable exemptions or waivers, if any.

  5. The authorized payment procedure.

  6. Any relevant refund or cancellation conditions.

No author should be required to make an undisclosed payment as a condition of manuscript evaluation or publication.

The existence or amount of a publication charge must not determine the scientific merit of a manuscript.

6. Editorial Independence from Financial Interests

ARISTHA maintains a clear distinction between financial administration and editorial decision-making.

The Editor-in-Chief and authorized editors are responsible for decisions concerning manuscript suitability, peer review, revision, acceptance, and rejection.

Such decisions must be based on:

  • Relevance to the journal's focus and scope.

  • Originality and scholarly contribution.

  • Methodological rigor.

  • Reliability of findings and interpretations.

  • Compliance with publication ethics.

  • Independent peer-review assessments.

Financial contributions, institutional sponsorship, advertising arrangements, or potential revenue must not improperly influence these decisions.

7. Peer Review and Financial Independence

ARISTHA applies a double-anonymous peer review process involving at least two independent reviewers for manuscripts that pass initial editorial screening.

Reviewer selection and evaluation must be based on relevant scholarly expertise and professional independence.

The journal must not guarantee favorable reviewer recommendations, manuscript acceptance, or accelerated editorial decisions in exchange for financial contributions.

Any approved administrative or professional compensation arrangements must not compromise the independence or objectivity of reviewers.

8. Sponsorships and Donations

ARISTHA may consider sponsorships, donations, or other forms of financial assistance when they are consistent with its academic mission and applicable institutional regulations.

Such support must not provide sponsors or donors with inappropriate control over:

  • Editorial appointments or decisions.

  • Reviewer selection.

  • Manuscript acceptance or rejection.

  • Research findings or conclusions.

  • Publication ethics investigations.

  • Retraction or correction decisions.

Relevant financial relationships should be disclosed when necessary to avoid misleading readers or other stakeholders.

The journal may decline financial support that presents an unacceptable conflict of interest or threatens editorial independence.

9. Advertising Revenue

If ARISTHA introduces advertising in the future, advertising-related revenue must be managed consistently with the journal's Advertising Policy.

Advertising arrangements must remain separate from editorial assessment and peer review.

The purchase of advertising space must not confer any advantage in manuscript evaluation or publication.

Advertising content should be distinguishable from scholarly articles and official editorial information.

The journal does not claim to operate an advertising program unless such a program has been formally established.

10. Commercial Partnerships and Collaborations

The journal may participate in appropriate academic or publishing collaborations that support its scholarly mission.

Any collaboration involving financial or operational support should be evaluated for potential conflicts of interest.

Commercial or institutional partners must not be permitted to manipulate research conclusions, interfere with independent peer review, or suppress legitimate editorial actions.

Relevant responsibilities and financial arrangements should be documented through appropriate institutional procedures.

11. Conflicts of Interest

Editors, journal administrators, and other relevant personnel should disclose financial relationships that could reasonably affect their impartiality.

Potential conflicts may arise from:

  • Financial interests in organizations discussed in submitted research.

  • Personal relationships with sponsors or donors.

  • Commercial interests associated with manuscript topics.

  • Financial relationships with authors or affiliated institutions.

  • Other arrangements that could create actual or perceived editorial bias.

Where a significant conflict exists, the affected individual should not participate in the relevant editorial decision.

12. Financial Administration and Accountability

Financial transactions associated with ARISTHA should be administered through appropriately authorized institutional or journal procedures.

The journal should maintain suitable records of relevant financial receipts, expenditures, and authorized arrangements.

Financial information should be managed in accordance with applicable institutional regulations, accounting requirements, and legal obligations.

Any payment instructions communicated to authors must identify the officially authorized payment channel.

The journal should not request payments through unauthorized personal accounts.

ARISTHA does not offer guaranteed publication in exchange for payment.

No financial contribution, sponsorship, donation, or publication charge may substitute for:

  • Initial editorial screening.

  • Independent peer review.

  • Academic quality assessment.

  • Research integrity evaluation.

  • Compliance with editorial policies.

A manuscript may be rejected on scholarly or ethical grounds regardless of any applicable financial arrangements.

14. Transparency Toward Authors and Readers

ARISTHA seeks to communicate financial policies clearly through its official website.

Authors should be able to identify whether any fees apply before proceeding with a submission.

Where applicable, the journal should publish information concerning:

  • Article processing charges.

  • Submission fees.

  • Publication-related services.

  • Fee waivers or exemptions.

  • Relevant payment conditions.

The journal should avoid statements that could mislead authors about the cost or conditions of publication.

15. Financial Support and Research Integrity

Financial arrangements must not compromise the journal's ability to investigate allegations of misconduct, correct errors, or retract unreliable publications.

The journal's responsibility to maintain the scholarly record takes precedence over potential financial or reputational consequences.

Sponsors, donors, advertisers, or other financial contributors must not improperly prevent legitimate editorial investigations or post-publication actions.

16. Responsibilities of the Publisher

Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Ar-Risalah Sumatera Barat, Indonesia, serves as the publisher of ARISTHA.

The publisher supports responsible journal governance and the maintenance of an appropriate academic publishing environment.

Publisher responsibilities may include facilitating authorized operational resources, supporting transparent administrative arrangements, and safeguarding the journal's editorial independence.
