ARISTHA: Ar-Risalah Journal of Islamic Tourism and Hospitality
Publisher: Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Ar-Risalah Sumatera Barat, Indonesia
ARISTHA: Ar-Risalah Journal of Islamic Tourism and Hospitality recognizes the importance of preserving scholarly publications and maintaining the long-term accessibility, integrity, and reliability of the academic record.
This Archiving Policy establishes the journal's principles and responsibilities concerning digital preservation, publication storage, backup procedures, repository dissemination, metadata maintenance, and continuity of access.
The policy applies to officially published articles, journal issues, associated publication metadata, and supplementary scholarly materials managed by ARISTHA.
ARISTHA is committed to developing and maintaining appropriate digital preservation practices that support the long-term availability of its scholarly publications.
The journal recognizes that digital preservation requires more than making articles available on a website. It also involves protecting publication files, maintaining accurate metadata, managing technical risks, and planning for future access.
The journal aims to preserve the integrity and accessibility of its published scholarly record through institutional support, appropriate technical administration, and the progressive adoption of suitable preservation mechanisms.
ARISTHA uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) as its online journal management and publishing platform.
OJS supports the organization and online dissemination of scholarly publications, including:
Journal issues and article records.
Published article files.
Author and publication metadata.
Editorial and publication information.
Article landing pages.
Supplementary publication materials, where applicable.
The use of OJS supports digital publication management but does not, by itself, guarantee independent long-term preservation.
Additional backup and preservation measures are therefore important.
The journal's preservation arrangements should cover, as appropriate:
Final published articles.
Official publication files, including PDF versions.
Journal volume and issue information.
Article titles, abstracts, and keywords.
Author names and affiliations.
Publication dates and bibliographic metadata.
Licensing and copyright information.
Supplementary materials designated for publication.
Correction, expression of concern, and retraction notices.
Other materials necessary to maintain the scholarly publication record.
Confidential editorial correspondence, unpublished manuscripts, and reviewer information are subject to separate access, retention, privacy, and security requirements.
Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Ar-Risalah Sumatera Barat, Indonesia, serves as the publisher of ARISTHA.
The publisher and authorized journal administrators share responsibility for supporting appropriate publication storage, technical maintenance, and continuity planning within available institutional resources.
Responsibilities should be assigned to appropriately authorized personnel and managed in accordance with applicable institutional procedures.
ARISTHA should maintain appropriate procedures for backing up journal publication files and relevant system data.
A suitable backup arrangement should address:
OJS application files.
Published article files.
Journal database records.
Article and issue metadata.
Relevant system configuration.
Necessary restoration information.
Backups should be performed on a documented schedule appropriate to the journal's operational needs and technical resources.
Where feasible, backup copies should be maintained separately from the primary hosting environment to reduce the risk of simultaneous data loss.
Backup files and preserved materials should be protected against unauthorized access, accidental modification, corruption, and deletion.
Access to administrative backups should be restricted to authorized personnel.
Security measures should be proportionate to the sensitivity of the stored information and may include access controls, secure storage, appropriate encryption, and periodic review of administrative permissions.
Confidential manuscript information and personal data must not be made publicly accessible merely because they are included in a technical backup.
The journal should periodically assess whether backup procedures are functioning as intended.
Where technically feasible, authorized administrators should verify the integrity of backup files and test restoration procedures.
The purpose of restoration testing is to identify problems before a major system failure occurs.
A backup should not be considered reliable solely because a backup file has been created.
The journal should maintain appropriate recovery documentation to support restoration following data loss or service disruption.
The final published version of an article constitutes the official version of record.
ARISTHA seeks to preserve the published version together with its relevant bibliographic information.
The journal should avoid unrecorded changes that could misrepresent the history or status of a published article.
When post-publication changes are necessary, they should be handled transparently in accordance with the journal's Retraction and Correction Policy.
Accurate publication metadata is essential to the discoverability, identification, citation, and long-term management of scholarly articles.
ARISTHA should maintain relevant metadata, including:
Article title.
Author information.
Abstract and keywords.
Journal title.
Volume and issue.
Publication date.
Official article URL.
DOI, where officially assigned.
Copyright and licensing information.
Relevant editorial notices.
Metadata should be updated appropriately when a published article is corrected, retracted, or otherwise subject to an official editorial notice.
ARISTHA supports responsible dissemination of published scholarly articles through legitimate academic channels.
Authors may deposit and share their articles through institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal academic websites, and other appropriate platforms in accordance with the journal's Posting Article Policy.
Repository dissemination can improve accessibility and provide additional locations from which published scholarship may be discovered.
However, author self-archiving does not automatically replace the need for an appropriate journal-level preservation strategy.
ARISTHA encourages appropriate cooperation with institutional repositories where such facilities are available.
Repository deposits should preserve accurate publication information and identify the version of the article being stored.
Where feasible, deposited records should provide a link to the official version of record on the ARISTHA website.
The journal should not claim that an institutional repository preserves its complete archive unless a corresponding arrangement has been established.
ARISTHA recognizes the value of established digital preservation services and networks, including LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and the PKP Preservation Network.
The journal may evaluate participation in suitable preservation services based on technical eligibility, institutional approval, operational capacity, and applicable service requirements.
References to these services in this policy do not constitute a claim of current membership, registration, or active preservation coverage.
Any future participation should be disclosed only after it has been verified.
ARISTHA should use appropriate publication formats that support reliable access and scholarly use.
Published articles may be provided in PDF and other supported formats according to the journal's technical capabilities.
The journal should seek to maintain readable and usable publication files and avoid unnecessary dependence on inaccessible or obsolete formats.
Where feasible, improvements in file accessibility and format management should be incorporated into future preservation planning.
The journal recognizes that technical disruptions may affect access to published content.
Possible risks include:
Hosting failures.
Server or storage damage.
Software vulnerabilities.
Accidental deletion.
Database corruption.
Unauthorized system access.
Domain or hosting service interruption.
The publisher and authorized technical administrators should maintain proportionate procedures for addressing these risks.
Where disruption occurs, restoration efforts should prioritize the integrity of publication records and the safe recovery of journal services.
ARISTHA may need to migrate its journal platform, hosting environment, database, or publication files as technology evolves.
Any migration should seek to preserve:
Published article content.
Article and issue metadata.
Author information.
Publication dates.
Official identifiers.
Licensing information.
Correction and retraction records.
Relevant links and references.
Migration procedures should be planned and verified to reduce the risk of data loss, metadata inconsistency, or unnecessary disruption of access.
ARISTHA recognizes the importance of stable article identification and reliable citation.
Where persistent identifiers such as DOIs are officially assigned, the journal should maintain accurate metadata and appropriate links to the published content.
The journal must not display identifiers that have not been officially registered or assigned.
Where persistent identifiers are not available, accurate bibliographic information and stable official article URLs remain important for scholarly citation.
Digital preservation includes maintaining a transparent record of significant post-publication editorial actions.
When an article is corrected, subject to an expression of concern, or retracted, the journal should preserve appropriate information about that action.
Retraction does not ordinarily require the complete deletion of the scholarly record.
The journal should maintain relevant notices and publication metadata in accordance with its Retraction and Correction Policy, subject to applicable legal or safety requirements.
Supplementary materials associated with published articles should be managed according to their scholarly relevance, technical requirements, and applicable rights.
Such materials may include datasets, questionnaires, appendices, research instruments, or other supporting files.
The journal should distinguish between materials officially published as supplementary content and external resources merely cited by an article.
The journal cannot guarantee continued availability of materials hosted independently by third parties.
Digital archiving must respect applicable privacy, confidentiality, and research ethics requirements.
The journal must not disclose confidential reviewer identities, unpublished manuscripts, personal information, or restricted research records through public preservation arrangements without an appropriate basis.
Technical backups containing confidential information should be subject to appropriate access controls.
Retention and deletion of non-public records should follow applicable institutional, legal, and ethical requirements.
ARISTHA recognizes the importance of planning for continued access to published scholarship if journal operations are interrupted or discontinued.
Where feasible and institutionally authorized, the publisher should seek appropriate arrangements to preserve access to existing publications.
Such arrangements may involve institutional repositories, transfer of archived files to an authorized custodian, or participation in a suitable preservation service.
Any transfer or alternative access arrangement must respect applicable copyright, privacy, and contractual obligations.
The journal should not promise perpetual access through a particular service unless that arrangement has been formally established.
The journal should periodically review the adequacy of its digital preservation practices.
Review activities may consider:
Backup reliability.
Restoration readiness.
Storage capacity.
Technical security.
Publication file integrity.
Metadata completeness.
Accessibility of archived articles.
Opportunities for external preservation partnerships.
Improvements should be prioritized according to operational risks, available resources, and institutional responsibilities.
Authors are encouraged to support preservation and discoverability by:
Providing accurate article metadata.
Retaining appropriate copies of their research materials.
Depositing published work in legitimate academic repositories when appropriate.
Citing the official version of record.
Respecting applicable copyright and licensing conditions.
Informing the journal of significant errors requiring editorial action.
Authors remain responsible for preserving underlying research records in accordance with applicable ethical and institutional requirements.
ARISTHA and its publisher should work toward maintaining a reliable and sustainable digital publication environment.
Their responsibilities include:
Supporting appropriate storage of published materials.
Maintaining accurate publication records.
Establishing suitable backup and recovery procedures.
Protecting confidential information.
Planning for technological changes.
Evaluating appropriate preservation services.
Maintaining transparency about the journal's actual archiving arrangements.
These responsibilities should be implemented according to authorized institutional procedures and available technical resources.
This Archiving Policy should be read together with the journal's:
Publication Ethics.
Retraction and Correction Policy.
Copyright and License Policy.
Posting Article Policy.
Publication System and Process.
Disclaimer Statement.
The relevant policies should be applied consistently when preservation issues involve copyright, research integrity, privacy, or post-publication changes.
ARISTHA may periodically review this policy in response to technological developments, institutional requirements, digital preservation standards, and changes in scholarly publishing practices.
Any material changes to the journal's preservation arrangements should be communicated accurately through its official website.
ARISTHA remains committed to protecting the integrity, accessibility, and continuity of its scholarly publication record.
