This study discusses the role of Letter of Credit (L/C) as a payment guarantee instrument in export-import transactions. L/C functions to provide certainty of payment to exporters while protecting importers' rights through the involvement of banks as neutral third parties. This study examines the basic concept of L/C, the parties involved, types of L/C, payment mechanisms, and legal protection that applies both internationally and nationally in Indonesia. The method used is a literature study with qualitative analysis of various primary and secondary sources related to international trade regulations and practices. The results of the study indicate that L/C is an important instrument in managing cross-border trade risks, providing security and trust between business actors, and supporting smooth export-import transactions despite challenges such as document irregularities and legal disputes. This study recommends increasing understanding and harmonization of regulations so that the use of L/C can be more optimal and effective.
